Bluebird Intergalactic Championships Wrap Up

by Ben Walter

With Race 7 of the fourth and final day of the State Championships completed, the Bluebird fleet met once again on the grassy knoll to eat some very well-cooked chicken wings and debrief on the day's racing and the series overall - and perhaps to partake in a beverage or three.

Seven races were held over four awesome days that had the sun shining on every occasion but the wind and waves proved to be variable, giving all comers conditions to test the boats and their hardy crew skills. The results provide the evidence and tell the final story and this year we honour Team Panacea as our newly crowned 'Bluebird Intergalactic Champions'. Drambuie scored Panacea's equal but lost on countback and Tandeka wasn't far behind either (perhaps the graffiti on Tandeka's bow really did have an effect?) PHS provided a completely different set of results and it's great to see the fleet mixing it up and sharing the podium glory with Warranilla taking out the top spot ahead of Gaylene then Nunyarra.

Championship Series Results
OD - 1st Panacea, 2nd Drambuie, 3rd Tandeka
PHS -  1st Warranilla, 2nd Gaylene, 3rd Nunyarra

Race 7 Results
OD - 1st Panacea, 2nd Tandeka, 3rd Drambuie
PHS - 1st Revel, 2nd Manjimup, 3rd Bounty

The Bluebird State Championship series offered up 17 entrants this year and every one of them campaigned at least twice, which is a testament to the strongest and friendliest fleet on the Bay. With the formalities of the championships over and done with, anticipation is high for the next Bluebird campaign - the Class Monkeys Series, starting in a few weeks' time.
